Today marks the 50th anniversary of the murder of 12-year-old Santos Rodriguez by a Dallas policeman, a tragedy which outraged Dallasites and which was a turning point for Dallas’ Mexican American community.

I was 20 years old and a life-time resident in 1973 and I was physically disgusted. I had just worked the McGovern campaign (in University Park) the year before, was uber-progressive, and wanted to burn the city down. This story MADE me grow up. Thanks for making me live through it again…
