By way of maybe dating, the last photo, “Flying officers” has two Standard J trainers as interesting backdrops. These planes were handicapped by engine problems that led to their rapid withdrawal from service. The plane in the photo featuring the three pilots is the classic Curtiss Jenny which replaced the Standards in American pilot training. Postwar and reengined the Standard had a sound role in American civil aviation. If you saw Thoroughly Modern Milly the red biplane seen in several scenes was one of the Standards fitted with a Hispano Suiza engine. All the photos in this spread are most appreciated.
