Thanksgiving in Dallas — 1883

Below, a recap of Thanksgiving Day in Dallas, 1883. “Family dinings and wineings were the order of the day.” And more food. And lots more convivial tippling. And young people escaping from the family for buggy rides out to Eagle Ford with friends. …Not so different from today. Happy Thanksgiving!

I left Dallas when I was 6 years to go to California with my military family. Returned to Dallas to go to SMU, taught school there, then went overseas to teach on the military bases. Met a young captain and the rest is history. Love your columns about Early Dallas; so much is familiar because my mother grew up in Dallas and loved it ! Visit with you next column ! Many thanks !

I am so sorry SHAKURAH i had just written about 4-5 pages about the baker Hotel from 1974 – 1980 when they tore it down. That was when I worked there and was attending SMU in Dallas. I kn we ALL about Mr ZEKE the head chef becuase he and I worked every day during the week (or on weekends too). I am NOT going to rewrite 5 more pages again only to have it TECHNICALLY disappear again. I would love to express my sheer excitement of those days gone by one more time with you if you call me.
Im in Albuquerque NM now, and I am 64. Call me quick there are not many
of us old timers left anymore. I have tons of dishes, silverware, pictures etc that you would probably enjoy. Jakeritchie, 512 430 8514. anytime prefer 12:00 noon till 4 or 6. Thanks James Ritchie in ALBUQ NM.
