The Baker Hotel

Above, a postcard view of the stately Baker Hotel, located catty-corner from the Adolphus, at the southeast corner of Commerce and Akard. The parking garage at the right looks like it might be the swanky Nichols Bros. Garage (yes, swanky — see the 1945 ad here). Built in 1925, demolished in 1980. R.I.P.
UPDATE: Check out the great (and sad…) photos by Frank Booth showing the Baker’s implosion in 1980, here. (Thank you, “NotBob”!)

These photos of the Baker demoltion from the Manor House Apartments shows the Southland Life Insurance Buildings were demolished at the same time: https://www.flickr.com/photos/fdbooth/albums/72157638867381845
You can also see that the whole block containing the Nichols Bros. Garage, the Horse Shoe Bar and Sigel’s Liquors was already a parking lot by then.
